Barbara Ann West

Barbara Ann West, 89, passed away on October 11, 2025, in Hull, Texas. She was born on March 19, 1936, in Jesse, Oklahoma, to her late parents, William and Willie West.

Barbara, affectionately known as mama to her children, and Grandma to her grandchildren, had a wandering soul, never wanting to stay put in one place for too long. This was evident in all the places she lived, her favorite being Bastrop, Texas. She craved change and would do anything to avoid monotony. Even if it was just re-arranging furniture in her living room. Holidays and vacations spent with her were always a treat. A few things were always certain during those times- you were going to be well-fed, you would leave with fantastic memories, and you had met some of the most interesting people. She was feisty and stubborn in all of the right ways. Once she put her mind to something, she was going to get it, whether that be marriage and children at a young age or getting her GED around age 60. She raised her children, at times on her own, working as a waitress, at domino parlors, and at grocery stores. That was impressive, especially in the 1960’s.

Barbara always had a good story to share, and an amazing memory. The stories she told were many times slightly inappropriate, with all the nitty gritty details. She was not one to sugar coat. She outlived all of her siblings, and her husbands too. She had many hobbies throughout her life. She loved to go to yard sales, resale shops, and finding discarded pieces that she gave new life and a new home. There wasn’t a craft she did not master, though sewing and crochet were by far her best. She was an avid reader and loved to garden. She could make a friend with anyone, no matter their station in life. She took in many strays over the years, whether they be dogs, cats, or even people. To say she will be missed is an understatement. There will be a little less sparkle, a little less flair without her here, but we shall carry Barbara’s unshakable spirit with us always.

Barbara is survived by her children, Neal Boles and wife Robin, Russell Boles and wife Amy, Leigh Ann Elder and husband Dean, Sheri Flowers and husband Don, and Kristine Jennings, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family members.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, William, and Willie Best; her sons, Bobby Dale Boles, and Bowen Keith Hampton; her brothers, Bud West, James West, and Billie Joe West; her sisters, Theda Taylor, and Joyce Lee.

Cremation services are under the care of Faith and Family Funeral Services, Batson, Texas
