A Life Remembered

Obituary

Barbara Lee Woods, a woman whose life was a testament to unwavering faith,

fierce love, and boundless strength, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, in

Liberty, Texas. Born on July 25, 1956, in Fort Rawley, Kansas, Barbara lived a

life rich in love, dedication, and heartfelt devotion to both family and faith.

Barbara was a beloved wife to her husband Don Woods, a partnership borne out

of shared passions and deep companionship. Together, they found joy in the

exhilarating world of racecars, where Barbara affectionately called herself the “pit

crew,” embodying her supportive spirit and a hands-on eagerness to be involved

and present. This bond was a cornerstone of her life, filled with cherished

moments and adventures.

At the heart of Barbara’s being was her profound connection to the Lord. Her

faith, steady and as powerful as a mustard seed, anchored her through all

seasons of life, especially during times of illness. She was a strong fighter who

never gave up hope or allowed herself to be defined by pain—she faced each

challenge without complaint, inspiring those around her with humility and

courage. Her spiritual strength was a beacon, touching the lives of family and

friends who leaned on her example of perseverance and grace.

Beyond her spirituality, Barbara was a woman of many talents and deep

affections. She was also an exceptional seamstress, crafting with skill and care

that mirrored the tenderness she held for her family. A grandmother beyond

compare, Barbara’s love for her grandchildren was pure and boundless. She

adored Jordyn Lucario, Logan Lucario, Peyton Raley, Chase Cross, Kaylan

Moore, and Ian Moore, delighting in every laugh, every milestone, and every

shared moment.

Barbara’s family was her world. She is survived by her devoted husband Don

Woods; her daughter, Barbara Gray; her step-daughters Amanda Moore and

husband Jason, and Stephanie Sturges and husband Melvin; her brothers Jimmy

Buckingham and wife Linda, and Thomas Buckingham, Sr. and wife Angela; her

sisters, Nancy Wells and Marcia Ferstle and husband Wayne; and a circle of

numerous extended close family and friends who were loved immensely. They all

carry forward her legacy of faith, resilience, and love.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Buckingham; mother, Alice

Dery Buckingham, her son, Stewart Cross, whose memory she treasured deeply

and whose loss was met with unparalleled strength and grace.

Barbara Lee Woods lived a life that radiated kindness, dedication, and an abiding

faith that never wavered. She leaves behind a family who will remember her not

only for her unwavering belief and fighting spirit but for her warmth, her laughter,

and the countless ways she showed love. Her life was a blessing to all who knew

her, a light shining brightly in the hearts of many.

Though Barbara has departed this world, her spirit endures—in the races she

loved, in the sweet aroma of baked treats, in the delicate stitches of a handmade

garment, and most enduringly, in the faith and love she instilled in those she held

dear. She will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
