Bernita Ann Landry, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, TX. Bernita was born February 28th, 1952 to Doug and Rita Landry of Daisetta. She graduated from Hull Daisetta High School and went on to support the family business as Vice President of Oil Well Production, Inc. After the family sold out, she worked in several roles with her final place of business being Production Equipment Supply Co. in Liberty, Tx.
Bernita spent the majority of her child and early adulthood horseback and recalled some of her fondest memories of working cattle with family friends. Even as a young woman, she had an old soul and a longing for simpler times. She was often spoke of as having been born too late as she was never a fan of modern convenience. She milked cows, made lye soap, chopped wood, built fence, wove baskets, tanned hides and a multitude of other things she could have afforded to buy or contract out. She found joy in working with her hands and took pride in the fact that she was able to adapt easily in situations that rendered the general public helpless. A lover of all animals, it was not uncommon to come home and find a stray dog, woods hog or mink that wondered up curled up on the couch in front of the fireplace. She even built her house without air conditioning so she could hear the wolves and owls at night. She served the Lord in her own unique ways, never wanting credit for her efforts. She lived her life fearless and to the fullest with an humble and giving heart.
Even in her final days, she spoke of how blessed she was to have lived such an amazing life and to have been in the company of such remarkable people.
Bernita is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Terry Landry.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Amanda Hetzel-Sweezy and husband Rob of Anahuac, Texas; step-son, Shane Hryhorchuk of Teague, Texas; grandchildren, Palmer Riggs and Bella Claire; nephew, Douglas Craig Landry; nieces, Megin Landry, Maxi Landry; many other loving relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Line Camp Cowboy Church 711 East US 90, Devers TX 77538 with Pastor Colby Trent Elliott officiating.
In lieu of flowers, in her honor, the family asks that you do something special for yourself with what you'd have spent. Buy a tank of gas and go visit an old friend, throw steaks on the grill and dance under the stars, take a road trip, do something for the less fortunate or put a little extra in the offering plate at church. Flowers die - kindness and memories last forever.
