A Life Remembered
Obituary
Charles Everette “Charlie” Caruthers, a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal friend, and lifelong West Hardin High School Oiler fan, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at St. Luke’s Health, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. Born on November 12, 1960, in Liberty, Charlie lived a life centered around faith, family, friendship, and the small-town community that meant everything to him.
Charlie never met a stranger. He was the kind of man whose smile could light up a room and whose laugh could make anyone feel at home. He loved life fully and joyfully, always finding happiness in the simple things—Friday night football, music playing in the background, time spent in the garden, and most of all, being surrounded by the people he loved. Charlie loved the Texas Longhorns and enjoyed cheering them on. Those game days, filled with laughter, excitement, and cherished memories, were times he truly treasured.
To know Charlie was to know a man completely devoted to his family. His greatest pride and joy were his wife of 45 years, Joan Caruthers, and the beautiful family they built together. Charlie adored Joan and spent his life loving and spoiling her every chance he could. Together they shared a love for western swing music, especially the sounds of Bob Wills, making memories dancing, laughing, and attending the Bob Wills Fiddle Festival together over the years.
But if there was one title Charlie treasured most, it was “Papa.” His grandchildren were truly the light of his life. Whether it was cheering them on, making them laugh, sharing stories, or simply spending time together, Charlie made each grandchild feel deeply loved. Cailyn, Liam, Roslyn Trousdale, Lincoln Motes, Chelsey Munoz, Livi Caruthers, Tyler Caruthers, and Addasyn Caruthers will forever carry the love, warmth, and unforgettable memories of their wonderful Papa in their hearts. The sound of Bob Wills music, the smell of a garden in bloom, and the spirit of a Friday night in West Hardin will always remind them of him.
Charlie’s daughters were the true pride and joy of his life. Casey and Caryn were never just his girls—they were his heart. He loved them with a kind of unconditional, steadfast love that only a devoted father can give. Through every season of life, every celebration, every hardship, and every milestone, Charlie was always there beside them with strength, encouragement, and unwavering support. He was the kind of daddy who made his daughters feel safe, cherished, and deeply loved every single day of their lives. His greatest happiness came from watching the women they became, and the bond they shared was one filled with laughter, love, and countless precious memories. To his girls, he was not only the best daddy, but their protector, biggest supporter, and forever hero.
Charlie was also the definition of hometown pride. A proud graduate and lifelong supporter of West Hardin High School, he bled blue and gold through and through. Known by many as the Oilers’ number one fan and beloved “Mighty Mac,” Charlie poured his heart into supporting the students and community he loved. Working concession stands, rebuilding spaces alongside friends, serving with the West Hardin Booster Club, and showing up for his community were never obligations to Charlie—they were joys. West Hardin was home, and Charlie loved it with all his heart.
A hardworking electrician by trade, Charlie spent many years doing what he could for others. He was known as a true “jack of all trades,” the person everyone called when they needed help. He worked for several companies throughout his life, but Radley Electric became more than a workplace—it became family. Charlie valued friendship deeply and cherished the lifelong bonds he made throughout the years.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Joan Caruthers; daughters Casey Trousdale and husband Michael, and Caryn Motes and husband Trey; his beloved grandchildren; his brother and best friend, Robert “Jump” Caruthers; and his sisters, Charlotte Price, Rita Johnson, and Tammy Blaylock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Elton and Carole Genevieve Caruthers; his brother, Otis Caruthers; and his sister, Janet Moor.
Charlie Caruthers leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and community. He was a happy soul, a loving husband, a proud Papa, and a friend to everyone he met. Though his family’s hearts are broken, they find comfort knowing the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in each of them.
