Cynthia Lece Underwood, born on July 5, 1940, into a world where she would leave an indelible mark of love and creativity, departed this life on July 28, 2025, in Kingwood, Texas. During her 85 years, Cynthia radiated warmth and affection, living a life rich with cherished memories and devoted family ties.
As the beloved wife of Benford Underwood for 57 remarkable years, Cynthia cultivated a home filled with laughter, love, and the delightful aromas of her cooking. She took immense joy in preparing family meals, where her culinary creations were lovingly shared among those she held dear. Her family was her pride and joy: son Arthur Underwood and his wife Janet, cherished grandchildren Rhiannon Robles and Chad Ferguson, and the bright light of her life, great-grandchild Jewell Stark, who brought her boundless happiness.
Cynthia's passions extended beyond the family table. A true lover of flowers, she found particular joy in the beauty of Hibiscus, which spoke to her vibrant spirit. An avid reader, she reveled in the worlds spun by Science Fiction with Stephen King’s works holding a special place in her heart. Her talent didn’t stop at reading; she was a self-taught crocheter, skillfully crafting everything from warm blankets to intricate gifts that she generously bestowed upon others. Her husband, Benford, kindly introduced her to the art of the chain stitch, but it was her innate talent that brought her creations to life—each stitch imbued with love.
Cynthia's love for Elvis Presley was legendary; she was not only a fan but a member of his fan club, filling her home with his music that undoubtedly reverberated with memories of joy and nostalgia.
While we celebrate the life of this remarkable woman, we also hold close the memories of her parents and her dear sister, Priscilla Raper, who preceded her in death. They leave a legacy that will forever echo through the hearts of those Cynthia touched.
In remembrance of Cynthia Lece Underwood, a graveside service will be held at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Liberty, Texas, on July 31, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM officiated by Mark Riojas. As we gather to honor her memory, let us reflect on the profound impact her life had on all who knew her. Her spirit will linger like the fragrant petals of her beloved Hibiscus, a reminder of the love and joy she so freely gave.
