Obituary

David L. (Dave) Van Tassell, a gentle man with a heartwarming spirit, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on April 5, 1941.

Dave was a true people person who never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went and was known as the life of the party. With his quick wit and playful sense of humor, he could always bring a smile to someone's face and laughter to any gathering.

A man of many words and jokes, Dave enjoyed staying busy and could do just about anything he set his mind to. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing and deer hunting. Some of his happiest moments were spent traveling and vacationing with his beloved family, creating treasured memories that will be cherished for years to come. He also enjoyed serving as a golf marshal at the golf courses in Anahuac and Liberty, where he made many lasting friendships.

Dave is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Judy Van Tassell; his loving children, David Van Tassell and wife, Dianna, Brian Van Tassell, and Heather Sue Sweatman and husband, Jamie; sister, Patricia Host. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Kaleb Howard, Hunter Howard and wife, Madison, Derick Van Tassell and wife, Andrea, Chelsea Baird and husband, Cameron, Mason Van Tassell, Charity Reece and husband, Brandon, Jennifer Bowles, Tarah Tinney and husband, Matt, Chris Sweatman and wife Megan, and Noah Sweatman. He was also blessed with many great-grandchildren. Elizabeth Sweatman, Everleigh Sweatman: Mackinlee Howard, Parker Baird, Oaklynn Baird, Jaiden Besaw, Caleb Besaw, Corey Besaw, Braylon Reece, Jasmine White, Chrissy Reece, Brianna Bowles, Anna Rocha, Cheyenne Tinney, and Wyatt Tinney. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Van Tassell; his mother, Ardis Cousins; and his grandson, Devon Van Tassell.

A memorial service celebrating Dave’s life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Faith and Family Funeral Services.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers foundation.

Dave’s kindness, laughter, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
