Ellen Marie Wells, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at her residence in Batson, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on November 1, 1945, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Ellen lived a life filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her family.

Ellen spent many years as a cook at convenience stores, where her sweet demeanor and caring nature touched the hearts of many who had the pleasure of knowing her. She possessed a quiet personality, but when she was riled up, she showcased the fiery spirit that made her so memorable. Her kindness was felt by all, and she stood as a beacon of love and compassion to her family and friends.

A passionate gardener and talented cook, Ellen was well-known for her famous chicken spaghetti and dressing, dishes that brought joy and comfort to everyone around her. Her greatest love was reserved for her family, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her children and nurturing her grandchildren. Ellen never remarried after the passing of her husband, Charles Wells, reflecting her deep commitment to her family and the enduring love she carried in her heart.

Ellen is survived by her two sons, Benny Wells and his wife Crystal, and James Wells. She treasured her role as a grandmother, delighting in her grandchildren Mallory, McKinley, Eillie, Laylie, Chase, and Kylie, along with her 10 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way. They will remember her warmth and the countless memories they created together.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Wells, her parents, Arthur Mattox, and Lucille Smith Mattox, as well as her brothers, Buddy Mattox and Vernon Mattox.

Ellen’s life was a testament to love, strength, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will forever be embraced in the hearts of her family and friends.
