Horace Hobbard "Whit" Whittington, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Devers, Texas, on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 10, 1931, Whit led a life filled with adventure, love, and unwavering faith.

In his younger years, Whit embraced the cowboy lifestyle at the Boyt Ranch, which fostered his deep-rooted connection to ranching and the lumber industry. His professional journey spanned various sectors, including a notable career in banking where he worked with numerous banks throughout his life. He became well-known in the real estate business, showcasing his exceptional skills as a realtor. Whit's dedication to his work was matched only by his devotion to his community, where he proudly served on the Silsbee School Board for several years.

Whit shared 38 wonderful years of his life with his beloved wife, Iris Whittington, in Silsbee, Texas. Their partnership was a testament to love and commitment, a bond that remained strong throughout the many seasons of their lives. After retirement, Whit's heart guided him back to his roots in Devers, where he continued to build a legacy of love and service.

An accomplished man, Whit cherished his education, earning a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas. His faith was an integral part of his life; he was a member of the Line Camp Cowboy Church in Devers, playing a key role in starting the church to invite others to join him in worship and service. Whit was also an active member of the Texas Landowners Association, Texas Forestry Association, Houston Realtors Association, Beaumont Realtors Association, and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association demonstrating his commitment to the land he loved.

As a family man, Whit's pride flowed through his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Iris Whittington; daughter, Vivienne Kirkland; son, Lloyd A. Whittington and his wife Jan; and a host of grandchildren including Robb Kirkland, Jana Post and her husband Corbett, Richmond Whittington and his wife Kari, Christapher Whittington and his wife Jenna, and Katelyn Koen and her husband Jean-Paul. His family has been blessed with many great-grandchildren: Maggie Post, Laci Kirkland, Seth Kirkland, Leyton Kirkland, Chap Post, Whit Post, McKenzie Whittington, Ethan Whittington, Olivia Whittington, Adelyn Whittington, Quinn Whittington, Bennett Whittington, Collins Whittington, Jacob Koen, Hudson Koen, and Eli Koen.

Whit was fond of reminiscing about his life experiences, filled with joyful moments spent in the great outdoors. He loved the cowboy lifestyle, raising cattle, hunting deer at his camp southeast of Devers, and sharing adventures of hog hunting from his childhood. Fishing was another cherished pastime that brought his family together. His personality radiated warmth and kindness; he loved God deeply and instilled the same values in his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd P. Whittington, Sr. and Maggie Brown Whittington; a brother, L.P. Whittington, Jr.; his sister-in-law, Wanda Whittington; and son-in-law, Robert Allen Kirkland.

Family and friends will gather to honor Whit's life on October 13, 2025, at the Line Camp Cowboy Church, with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held the following day, October 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Charlie Lackey, Pastor David Cross, and Pastor Bill Fabriguze officiating, followed by a burial at Whittington Cemetery in Devers, Texas.

Honoring Whit as pallbearers are Robb Kirkland, Corbett Post, Richmond Whittington, Jean-Paul Koen, Christapher Whittington, Seth Kirkland, Leyton Kirkland, Chap Post, Whit Post, Mike Gilliland, and Charles Gilliland.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Line Camp Cowboy Church in Devers, Texas.

Whit leaves a legacy not just of accomplishments, but of love, devotion, and a life well-lived. His spirit will continue to guide those he leaves behind as they share cherished memories and uphold the values he cherished most.
