A Life Remembered

Obituary

Liddie Louise Childress, a cherished and beloved soul, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Webster, Texas. Born on February 9, 1941, in Batson, Texas, Liddie lived a life marked by independence, unwavering faith, and a heart full of generosity. She was an extraordinary woman of God whose spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Liddie was much more than a devoted member of her family; she was a giver whose kindness knew no bounds. Always ready to lend a helping hand, she was the embodiment of selflessness. Those who shared her meals will remember with fondness the unmistakable mark of her love. Her Cowboy Cookies were only one small taste of the many things she lovingly prepared, bridging generations and hearts around the table.

Beyond her cooking talents, Liddie found joy in the outdoors, fishing and camping with her family. In her later years, she worked aboard a shrimp boat, which showed her adventurous soul and zest for life.

Her devotion to Smith Point Community Church was profound; the church family was like her actual family, and she embraced every opportunity to participate in their community with a joyful heart. Liddie's faith was a cornerstone of her life, inspiring those around her with her steadiness and kindness.

Liddie is survived by her sons, Richard Childress and his wife Kathy, and Bill Childress and his wife Lisa. She was a loving grandmother to ten grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren, each a living testament to her enduring legacy. Her church family at Smith Point Community Church mourns her passing and treasures forever the warmth and light she brought into their lives.

She was preceded in death by her father, JC O'Quinn; mother, Annie Andrews O'Quinn; husband, Richard Childress, Sr. and WF Childress; daughter, Denise Babb; and her dear sisters, Barbara Richardson and Sue Havard.
