Marjorie Sue Cummings, a longtime resident of Channelview, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas at the age of 73. Born in Altus, Oklahoma, on March 6, 1952, to Henry and Betty Hughes.

Marjorie had a career in bookkeeping and payroll for a few businesses including Houston Brick and Tile, American Pipe Inspection, EMC Services, Triumph Hospital, and Kindred Hospital. Marjorie lived a full and vibrant life surrounded by love and cherished memories. Marjorie had a spirit as curious and adventurous as the mystery novels she adored. Whether she was diving into the latest whodunit or setting out on one of her spontaneous road trips to Oklahoma, she was always fueled by a sense of wonder and joy. She had a collector’s soul, delighting in the treasures of life, be it hand blown glass animals, unique marbles, or anything frog-themed (her favorite!). Marjorie always found happiness in the little things. No meal could compete with a seafood feast, and no weekend was quite as special as a day spent at Winnie Trade Days. She loved the buzz of the market, the thrill of a good find, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by people, stories, and history.

Marjorie’s affection extended far beyond things, she had a lifelong love for cats, who always seemed to know that her lap was the warmest and her heart the gentlest. She craved time spent with family. A weekday lunch with her son, Gary, while watching Gunsmoke and Bonanza and evenings full of her grandchildren’s laughter always filled her heart the most. Marjorie’s life was a beautiful collection of adventures, laughter, curiosity, and love. She leaves behind a legacy of wonder and warmth that lives on in every mystery book on a shelf, every frog figurine, every winding road waiting to be traveled.

Marjorie leaves behind her son Gary Cummings and wife Beth; her daughter Amy Fogle; her sister Linda Barrington and husband Steve; her grandchildren Melanie Kelley and husband Cole, Lauren Hopper and husband Nicholas, Kristina Cummings, Stacy Ites and fiance Maddie Simon, and Hunter Ites; her great-grandchildren Jade Jennings, Casey Ites, Clayton Kelley, and Harrison Hopper.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Oliver Hughes and Betty Jo Monday Hughes.
