Melvin Maurice Rogers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, in Batson, Texas, at the age of 91. He was born on October 8, 1934, and lived a life rich in love, dedication, and the simple pleasures that brought him the greatest joy.
Melvin was a man who found immense happiness in the outdoors. Whether he was casting a line while fishing or hunting, especially hog hunting, he was always at home in nature. He was gifted with his hands and loved rebuilding and working on tractors, taking great pride in every project he completed. Above all, Melvin cherished his family. He loved camping and cooking out, creating lasting memories with those he loved most. For 60 wonderful years, he shared a special bond with his beloved wife, Mary Marcilene, and together they enjoyed dancing and spending time with one another. Many would say he and Marcilene were one of the oldest and best dancing couples in Hardin County. Give Dad a cold Dr Pepper, turn on a good country song, and he was ready to dance the night away. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed watching the classic television show Gunsmoke, and treasured the companionship of his loyal fur baby, Copper, who was always faithfully by his side.
Melvin is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mary Marcilene Rogers; his loving daughters, Leslie “Cooter” Budro and husband Jerry, LaDonna “Don” Hall and husband Terry, and Belinda “DuKum” Rogers; his cherished grandchildren, Brandy Budro, Kevin Budro, and Hope Kennedy; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Lillie, Belle, Zach, Madison, Alex, and Marty. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loving extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Rogers; his mother, Bessie Frances Walker Rogers; his son, Melvin Ronald Rogers; his brothers, Henry Rogers and Ted Rogers; and his sisters, Mamie Yorio, Laura Jane Hunt and Dora Barrow.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, between 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Faith and Family Funeral Services in Batson, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Faith and Family Funeral Services in Batson, Texas with Pastor Butch Perkins officiating. Burial will follow to Guedry Cemetery in Batson, Texas.
Melvin will be remembered for his kind heart, his love for the outdoors, his hardworking spirit, and the deep love he had for his family. The memories he created, the wisdom he shared, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family will remain a lasting source of comfort and inspiration for generations to come.
