Celebrating the life of Robert Orville "Pop" Davis
In the small area of Baytown Texas called Cedar Bayou Orville was Born December 1, 1934, to parents Owen & Willie Mae Davis. Orville spoke many times of walking miles to school a lot of times bare footed. While still young Orville and the family relocated to Thicket Texas. In this small community were other family members so growing up after doing chores going fishing at the local creeks with his friends or cousins was his favorite thing to do. It didn’t take long in the little one room school to set his eyes on the love of his life. All through the last few years of school all he wanted to do was get through with his day at school so he could hold hands with his sweetie Helen Ferguson and walk her home. Orville exceeded in his school work and also enjoyed things like football, school plays and other activities. As the days passed on it was a for sure thing that his eyes never strayed from the one, he loved. Shortly after graduating top in his class the wedding was planned that united the two young love birds.
Throughout the years Orville chose a life of working in the Oilfield business. This led to constant uprooting his family and moving on to the next location. Many friendships were formed at each new location.
To the life of Helen and Orville 3 children were born. Denise, Robert Ray and Bobby. In Pop’s words his kids were loved dearly. As life went on and the children grew, married and moved off came the excitement of grandchildren and lots of them. And this is when he earned the name of “POP” that stuck with him throughout his life. Even when in the hospital recently if he wouldn’t answer to anything else… once called Pop he responded quickly. When ask, Pop said each of you grandchildren were the “joy of his life”.
Later in life while attending a small church in Louisiana listening to a gospel singer Pop’s faith was put into action. His love for the Lord grew, His journey with the Lord started… Pop walked the aisle at church professing his love for the Lord and his willingness to serve him and asking forgiveness of his sins. Over the years they visited many churches, but First Baptist Saratoga was their home.
In 2012 sadness hit when Pops wife of 61 years passed away with cancer. Leaving such an empty hole in his life. His kids and family surrounded him in a very loving way and seen him through.
Not often does love come around twice but Pop found it. He married his second wife Valerie and started building new memories, exploring new challenges and loving life again. With the new wife and life came the edition of another son, Chance. So much laughter filled their lives. Their journey took them to many places as they began a second career of attending trade days. It was like going on vacation every week. The true joy of this was all of the new friends he met. It only took meeting and talking to Pop one time to be considered family to him. As Pop left this world and began his journey into Heaven, he had to release the hand of his loving wife that was holding on. Such sweet memories will always flood her heart.
Pop left this world and made his journey with the angels to Heaven at 10:15pm on April 13th, 2025. He left such a hole in our existence. Throughout the last several weeks we have been amazed to see the impact Pop left on so many lives. He loved life to the fullest, he loved his friends and family and mainly he loved the Lord.
