Robert Earl West, a cherished soul known for his immense kindness and generosity, passed away on September 14, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Batson, Texas. Born on June 8, 1941, Robert was a man defined by his unwavering faith, love for family, and an unparalleled zest for life.
Robert dedicated many years of his life as a pipefitter and welder and also served with distinction in the Hardin County Sheriff's Office. Robert was also a supervisor for Special Oilfield Services for many years making lifelong friendships. He poured his heart into every endeavor, always working to improve the lives of those around him. His life was a testament to hard work, faith, and service—principles he upheld throughout his journey on this earth.
He is most lovingly remembered for his beautiful gardens, which were not merely a hobby but a labor of love. Robert cultivated the biggest gardens, tending to every plant with care, and generously sharing the abundance with family and friends. A true giver at heart, he found joy in blessing others with the fruits of his labor. His love for gardening mirrored his deep love for his family—both grew and thrived under his nurturing spirit.
A devoted husband, Robert, met the love of his life, Martha Sweezy, at the tender age of 17. They married on November 11, 1959, and created a lifetime of beautiful memories together. His greatest joys blossomed within his family when he became a dad to his precious daughter Beth. He later became PaPa to his treasured grandchildren—Robert Garrett Fant, Malloreigh Bree' Rhodes, and Clayton Eli Castilaw—as well as his great-grandchildren, Brynsley Marie Fant, Saylor Grace Ross, and Reid Garrett Fant. His laughter and playful spirit were the cornerstones of their cherished time spent together. He loved to share fishing trips with family, forming an irreplaceable bond that will forever be remembered. The love he had for his wife Martha was undeniable. He would never take a job that would take him away from his beloved wife and family, always making sure he didn’t work too far from home. Family was a priority for him, and he made sure they knew it and felt his love. He and Martha enjoyed the simple things in life and often watched the sunsets together.
Robert's personality radiated positivity and humility; he approached life with a smile and a mischievous twinkle in his eye, often quick to spread laughter and cheer through playful pranks. His ability to fix anything was legendary among family and friends. A giant of a man with an even bigger heart, Robert never hesitated to lend a helping hand and selflessly served various churches by crafting and building what was needed.
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Martha West; daughter, Beth Johnson and husband Calvin; brothers, Randy West and wife Kay and Gary West; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends who cherished the joy he brought into their lives.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Earl Lee West; mother, Idora Fregia; and sister, Wanda Faye Foreman. The love and values he instilled in his family will resonate for generations, reflecting the strong faith that guided his life.
