Ronald Louis Fielder, 88, of Raywood, Texas, a beloved and revered father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend (occasionally enemy) to many, passed away on May 26, 2024. He was at his home in the care of those who loved him. He was born on November 15, 1935, in Port Lavaca, TX to the late Robert R. Fielder and Era M. Fielder.
My dad had an adventurous, albeit colorful life. The only one of seven children in his family to graduate high school in Dayton, TX, class of 1955. Shortly after high school he joined the Army where he excelled in electronics and communications. Honorably discharged he went to work as an electrician for Western Electric. It was around this time he reconnected with his old high school flame. With a little time, and considerable convincing, she soon gave in and became the lady I would come to know as Mama. They settled in Raywood where he took up farming and that morphed into a job as a cross-country truck driver. He later offered his talents to various other endeavors until his retirement.
Aside from his varied professional life, my dad had his personal talents and interests, many of which he endowed me with, and I enjoy to this day thanks to him. He was passionate about his gun collection as they all were accompanied by a long story as to their history and how he came to possess them. He was also a talented carpenter, a skill he attributed to the late Mr. Jett Agiter “Mr. Jett” of Devers, TX. I know all those stories by heart, ask me sometime if we should meet. It will honor his memory to have them continued to be told.
Ronald was preceded in death by his wife, Betty June Fielder, father Robert Roderick Fielder and mother Era Marie Fielder. Also, brothers Robert R. Fielder (Jr.), Wells Thomas Fielder and John Charles Fielder. His sisters Mauritta Elswick, Sue Barker and Hilda Laza. He is survived by myself, Jesse Alford Fielder (Monica), daughters Linda R. Atkinson and Clarissa Diane Fielder and my brother Anthony Andrew Fielder. Grandchildren Jess B. Fielder, Katharine E. Fielder, Amelia A. Fielder, Dillan L. Ferguson, Anthony Fielder, and Autumn Fielder. There’s a passle of cousins, nieces and nephews and in-laws and out-laws scattered all over.
Serving the family as pallbearers are as follows: Dillan Ferguson, Derik Johnson, Jess Fielder, David Adams, Gerald “Red” Cocran, and Dane Schilling. Serving as an alternate pallbearer will be Deran Schilling.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Faith and Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, June 1, 2024, at Faith and Family Funeral Home with Pastor Charlie Lackey officiating. Burial will follow to Moss Hill Cemetery.
Ronald was a breed apart and seldom seen in the world any longer. He was here to not only witness the creation of the nation and world we all live in today, but to partake in the building of it. His legacy to me would be to say, “put on your boots, hoist your flag, and let’s get it handled”. In his own words “I’ll be see’in ya.”
