Saratoga

Ruth Tomlinson, a cherished matriarch and devoted educator, departed this life on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Saratoga, Texas, at the age of 100. Born on May 20, 1924, in Henderson, Texas, Ruth's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her family and a profound dedication to shaping young minds.

Ruth began her illustrious teaching career in 1943, shortly after commencing her studies as a freshman at Lon Morris College in 1941. In her decades-long vocation, she provided guidance and inspiration to numerous students throughout the communities of Saratoga, Batson, and West Hardin ISD. Her endearing ability to connect with children, whether teaching first grade or second grade, made her an invaluable asset to her schools and a beloved figure in the lives she touched. Ruth's passion for education remained steadfast until her well-earned retirement in 1991, leaving an indelible mark on her students and colleagues alike.

In her personal life, Ruth was united in matrimony to her beloved husband, Basil Tomlinson, for nearly 65 years. Their love story, which commenced on December 13, 1944, was a testament to their enduring bond and mutual devotion, resplendently carrying forth until Basil's passing in 2008. Together, they cultivated a warm and loving home filled with compassion and support, embracing the roles of parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents with grace and joy.

A woman of many interests and hobbies, Ruth found delight in the simple pleasures of life. She loved to gamble and spent many serene days fishing, where the tranquility of nature provided a welcome retreat. Yet, beyond leisure pursuits, it was her identity as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that shone most brightly. Ruth's sweet, caring demeanor and hardworking spirit were fundamental to her family's fabric, solidifying her cherished status as the heart of their collective existence.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Arnold and Maude Mae Dukes; husband, Basil Tomlinson; brothers, Roy Howard Arnold, Walter Russell Arnold; sisters, Mildred Mardell Arnold, Mary Evelyn Arnold.
