Sue Janice Vanya

Sue Janice Hall Vanya went to her eternal resting place on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at her home in Batson, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was ninety years old. Sue was a homemaker by trade; with five children, fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She was married to Raymond Leroy Vanya for 59 years before he departed this earth in April 2014.

Sue leaves behind her children, Raymond Leroy Vanya Jr. and wife Debra, Patrick Wayne Vanya and wife Helen, Gary Mitchell Vanya and wife Lisa, Kelly Sue Miller and husband Dale, and Angela Karen Eckert and husband Tom; her sister, Maddie Jane Fregia; grandchildren, Justan, Jessica, Amanda Kaye, Jeremy, Jonathan, Jara, Christopher, Alyson, Houston, Jase, Garison, Jaxon; along with 19 great-grandchildren.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Green Hall and Audrey Bernice Brammer; her husband Raymond Leroy Vanya; brother, Samuel Green Hall III; sister, Shirley Dare Bozeman; grandsons, Philip Miller and Benjamin Miller.

Sue loved to take care of everyone and there wasn’t a person within a 100-mile radius who hadn’t eaten from her table or enjoyed the adventures that the Vanya house would bring. From late night basketball games on the dirt court in the backyard, to phase 10 battles, Frio River trips with campfire stories, and late night scares at the cemetery; the memories made at her home, or with her, are ones that many will be able to cherish for a lifetime. Her door was always open, bellies were always full, and laughter filled rooms were always present.

There were many things that Sue enjoyed but the thing she enjoyed the absolute most was spending time with her family. Every Sunday the entire family would attend church and then gather for Sunday dinner, which was always homemade because she made the best meals, desserts and always had multiple gallons of fresh sweet tea. Every week, Sunday dinner felt like a holiday affair and her family didn’t know that this wasn’t normal; this was all they knew, and the Vanya clan became a well known unit in the community, which became nicknamed “Vanya Ville.”

If Sue wasn’t spending time with family, you could find her and Pappa fishing at Lake Livingston; running trot lines fishing for catfish or catching crappie before frying it up for dinner. She cherished the time spent on the water and often invited her family to join them. Whether it was weekend trips, or Fourth of July holidays, the lake house was always full and always fun.

Of all the things she accomplished, one of the best things that Sue did was take her kids to church and make sure that everyone she came into contact with knew Jesus. She knew where her eternal resting place would be, and she wanted to make sure others knew it too. While we are mourning her loss here on Earth, we know she’s in Heaven; reunited with Pappa, her parents, siblings, and grandchildren who have gone on before her. She lived a wonderful life for ninety years and was a faithful servant of the Lord; She raised us up so we could stand on mountains and were so blessed to have been impacted not only by her grace, but most importantly, by her love!

Honoring Sue as pallbearers are Jonathan Vanya, Jeremy Vanya, Jase Vanya, Jaxon Vanya, Houston Vanya, Garison Vanya, and Christopher Zwahr. Honorary pallbearers are Philip Miller and Benjamin Miller.

A graveside service will begin at 10:00 AM, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Guedry Cemetery in Batson, Texas, officiated by Pastor Tolbert Hudspeth. Interment to follow.
