Wanda Sue Santos, a cherished mother, devoted grandmother, and loving wife, departed from this world on January 3, 2026, in Baytown, Texas. Born on October 14, 1942, she led a life filled with passion, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
Wanda dedicated her career to education as a PE teacher for Barbers Hill Independent School District, where her influence touched countless lives. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to fostering physical health and teamwork in her students made a lasting impact, rippling through generations even as she later retired.
Known as a loving grandmother, Wanda held a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as Grandma. She also embraced the title of Aunt Sissy, radiating warmth and affection to all around her. Her generosity was boundless; she cherished the joy of blessing others with gifts and always made sure that her loved ones felt special.
Wanda was a woman of many talents, most notably as a gifted cook. Family and friends knew they could count on her for mouthwatering desserts that went beyond expectations. When she was asked to prepare something for gatherings, they knew her love for cooking would shine through in multiple delightful offerings, drawing from her extensive collection of cookbooks. Her passion for cooking was matched only by her love for reading, often seen diving into books that transported her to different worlds.
In her leisure time, Wanda thrived outdoors, finding joy in hiking and camping. She enjoyed exploring nature's beauty, which mirrored the beauty she spread in the lives of those she loved. Shopping was another passion, but for Wanda, it was never about personal indulgence; she loved to shop to bless others, demonstrating her thoughtful nature time and again.
Wanda will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert “Bobby” Santos, her son, Robert “Glen” Santos, Jr. and wife Laura, and her daughters, Anisa Santos and Teresa Santos Esparza and husband Orlando. She is also survived by her sisters, Defsy Strahan, Joan Gandy and husband Barney, and Mary Ellen Carouthers, along with her treasured grandchildren, Phillip Santos, Katherine Santos, Jared Esparza, Kyle Esparza, Jason Esparza, and Jenna Esparza. In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends and family who were fortunate enough to know her vibrant spirit.
Wanda will be remembered not only for her loving presence and enduring legacy but also for the kindness she freely offered to those around her. Her services will provide an opportunity for family and friends to come together to honor and celebrate her remarkable life. The visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Batson, Texas on January 7, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on January 8 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Joel McMahon. Wanda will be laid to rest at Guedry Cemetery in Batson, Texas after the service.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we hold dear the memories we shared and the lessons she imparted. Wanda's loving spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
